2) First Line Coaching will design practical and effective human resources processes and policies, compliant with current employment legislation, tailored to your business needs, in the areas outlined below. Follow up training for managers and staff is optional.

Recruitment and Selection – getting the right person for your business

If you are doing your recruitment in-house, it can be very time consuming. First Line Coaching can assist you with some or all stages of the recruitment and selection process, from writing the position description through to reference checking.

Induction – supporting you in the provision of a positive and safe introduction for your new employees

We assist with the development of effective Induction programs for new employees or for newly promoted employees. People who are not inducted properly have to make assumptions. Wrong assumptions can be serious e.g. Work health and safety errors can cause injury and death.

Mentoring – assisting you to introduce a mentoring program to develop your people and encourage exchange of ideas

A formal, well designed mentoring program has many benefits for organisations including improving interdepartmental and intradepartmental communication and understanding; providing leadership opportunities for your best non-managerial employees; easing the burden of time-poor line managers and ensuring new and inexperienced employees are receiving the support they need. First Line Coaching can assist with the design of an appropriate Mentoring Program for your business.

Performance Management – ensuring people know what they need to achieve, know how to do it, have the right resources, know how their success will be measured, and receive timely feedback about performance

Effective performance management systems are designed to ensure that the productivity and achievements of the individual employees within the business, contribute directly to achieving the Company’s strategic goals. When employee’s goals and Company goals are not in alignment there is risk of lost productivity, industrial relations problems, demotivated staff and unhappy customers.

We can assist you to create processes that will provide your people with clear expectations about what they need to achieve, how their achievements will benefit the Company and transparency about how they will be measured. The process will encourage two-way communication and optimise the Company’s internal knowledge, experience and ideas.

We can also assist you to translate the Company’s goals or Business Plan into individual SMART goals.

Managing poor performance – assisting you when there is poor fit between an employee and the organisation to manage in accordance with the Fair Work Act, respectfully and amicably

Effective performance management systems will quickly identify performance that is not meeting expectations and allow time for remedial action such as re-training, redefining goals or reviewing workload. If performance cannot be improved, the processes for separation must be handled sensitively, professionally and comply with the relevant legislation.

Development Plans and Succession Planning

We can assist with a simple succession planning process for small to medium businesses; and a more multi-faceted succession planning process for large companies. Individual development plans, linked to both the individual’s goals and the Company’s strategic direction will be an important part of the process.

Small to Medium Enterprises – specific HR needs

First Line Coaching understands that owners of small businesses are often juggling many roles. Finding time to establish best practices and policies for your business is challenging and takes you away from your core business. We will work with you to create policies and processes associated with the people management aspects of running and managing your Company.

If you are the HR Manager of a small to medium enterprise, a specific project or HR challenge can absorb more than its fair share of your time. First Line Coaching can provide temporary relief by assisting you with specific projects or providing back-up when you are on leave.

Change Management

Many factors contribute to effective change management – planning and project management; communications, both internal and external to the Company; negotiations with all the stakeholders; data-gathering; budgeting; contingency planning and more. To coordinate all of these factors whilst ensuring the strategic outcomes are delivered requires all the key influencers and change managers to possess a high degree of emotional intelligence, as well as facilitate excellent teamwork and communication channels.

Seeking the opinions of, and consulting with those who will be affected, elicits critical information and fosters commitment to the change. Being proactive in communicating, rather than allowing the corporate grapevine to be the main communication channel enables change managers to have more control. A culture of trust and genuine willingness to find a solution for stakeholder concerns contributes strongly to the smooth transition from old to new and establishes a positive platform for future change.

First Line Coaching will work with your key influencers, technical experts, employees and other stakeholders to facilitate a change management process that delivers the desired results and effectively manages the stakeholder’s requirements.

The rules and regulations associated with employing and managing people require managers to be highly skilled in written and verbal communications, as well as be conversant with employment law. A procedural error may cause you to be non-compliant, with the potential to incur heavy cost to your business and your reputation. Importantly, best practice policies and procedures make managing people easier and foster a positive, results-focussed, customer-service oriented work environment.
